Dispensaries Near Salem, MA

Salem has four shops on the Cannabis Control Commission's Where to Buy list, and only one of them holds a medical licence. Salem allows adult-use shops under a licence cap. This guide sorts the four by licence type, explains what the Commission's tracker says about Salem, and covers a Salem resident's steps to a medical card.

The four Salem shops on the Commission's list

Cannabis Control Commission "Where to Buy" list, retrieved October 23, 2026. Two of the four are on Highland Avenue.

Alternative Therapies Group is the one Salem shop the Commission lists as medical and adult-use. For a registered patient it is the Salem option. The other three are listed as adult-use. The Commission does not date this list, and shops change names and ownership, so confirm a shop's current status before you drive.

Salem's rules, as the state tracks them

On the Commission's Municipal Zoning Tracker (read October 23, 2026), Salem's adult-use entry reads "Zoning in place; license cap". Delivery is "Delivery permitted" and social consumption is "No zoning in place". "License cap" means Salem limits how many adult-use retail licences it will allow. The tracker does not give the number, and this guide does not state one: the city clerk or the planning department has the current figure and the zoning districts.

Peabody, by contrast, shows "Ban in place" for adult-use. That is why AC's Peabody store is a medical dispensary.

Becoming a medical patient from Salem

A card is not needed to shop at an adult-use shop; it is for buying as a medical patient, and the program works the same way statewide:

Under 18 has extra rules, and caregivers register separately. Both are in the Massachusetts medical marijuana card guide.

Driving from Salem to Peabody

From Salem City Hall to 25 Newbury Street is about 7 miles and about 14 minutes by car in light traffic. The route runs through Peabody on city streets: Route 107 (Boston Street), then Lynnfield Street and Route 129 (Salem Street) to US 1 north. That makes it the slowest of the three guides' routes per mile.

From Alternative Therapies Group on Grove Street, the drive to the Peabody site is about 6 miles and about 12 minutes. AC Peabody will be a separate medical dispensary on Route 1, for registered patients and caregivers.

AC and Peabody, for Salem readers

AC is a Lowell cultivator (licence MC283314). AC Peabody, its medical dispensary at 25 Newbury Street on Route 1, is under renovation, and no opening date has been announced. Salem readers who sign up on the Peabody page get the date before anyone else.

Read on October 23, 2026. The Commission publishes the shop list and the zoning tracker without an updated date and says to confirm details with the town.

Everything above comes from public records. Nothing here is a recommendation of a shop, medical advice or legal advice, and AC makes no claim about what marijuana does for a health condition.
