Get a Massachusetts Medical Marijuana Card

A Massachusetts medical marijuana card lets you buy at a medical dispensary. It takes five steps, and the state charges nothing to sign up. Tap a button to open each official page.

Five steps to your card

  1. Ask your doctor Ask your own doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant if they are a registered certifying provider. The state keeps no public list, so you have to ask. The provider decides if you qualify and sets the price of the visit. Read the state answer
  2. Get your PIN If the provider certifies you, they email you a 4-digit PIN. Keep it. You need it to sign up. See the state steps
  3. Sign up online. It is free. Open the state patient portal and sign up with your PIN. The state charges no fee to register. Open the patient portal
  4. Have your ID and proof of address Have a valid ID and a paper that shows your Massachusetts address, like a recent utility bill. The state lists what it accepts, and the fee rules. See what to bring and fees
  5. Print your temporary card When the state approves you, print your temporary card from your account. The real card comes in the mail. Renew once a year. How renewing works

Patients can be 18 or older. Under 18 has extra rules. For every detail, with sources, read the full guide.

Near Peabody

AC Peabody is a medical dispensary being renovated at 25 Newbury Street, on Route 1 in Peabody. It has no opening date yet. Peabody does not allow adult-use shops, so the store will serve registered patients and caregivers. You can get your card now, so it is ready later.

The state has no search tool for certifying providers. Its own advice is to ask your doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant if they are registered. If you do not have one, ask a primary care office near you. AC does not recommend any provider. Be careful with anyone who says they are the state list.

Each guide lists the licensed shops the state shows in that town, what the town allows and how far the drive to Peabody is.

Short answers

A patient can be 18 or older. If the patient is under 18, there are extra rules, and two physicians have to certify.

Yes. AC Peabody will be a medical dispensary for registered patients and caregivers. The store is being renovated and has no opening date yet.

Does AC recommend a provider?
